Pakistan Defence Minister’s Explanation for Not Intercepting Indian Drones Sparks Mockery
In Parliament, Asif claimed that Pakistan did not shoot down Indian drones, because they did not want to give away their own locations.
Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif is once again in the limelight for making confusing, and at times implausible, statements in the context of escalating tension between India and Pakistan.
In Parliament, Asif claimed that Pakistan did not shoot down Indian drones, because they did not want to give away their own locations. “It’s too technical for me to explain,” he added. Asif's vague statement quickly became a meme on social media, with many people mocking how casually Asif addressed such a serious matter.

However, this is not the first time Khawaja Asif has made vague or absurd statements.
In an interview with Sky News, Asif openly admitted that Pakistan had sponsored terrorism for almost 30 years, saying it was done "at the behest of the West" for the US and the UK.
These countries have never agreed, or even corroborated, what Asif said.
Khawaja Asif also made false claims, posting fake news to prop up Pakistan's credibility following India's successful air strike with Operation Sindoor, which hit nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Asif told CNN that Pakistan had struck down five Indian fighter jets.
When asked for proof, he bizarrely said, “It’s all over Indian social media.” The CNN anchor quickly shut him down by saying, “I’m sorry, we didn’t ask you here to talk about social media content.”

Indian officials described Operation Sindoor, which commenced on May 7, as targeted strikes on terror bases in light of the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where 26 civilians were killed. They stated that Pakistan military sites were restored to avoid collateral damage.
Subsequently, Pakistan continued unprovoked strikes across multiple Indian locations with both air and artillery strikes.
India then took action to strike military targets across Pakistan, destroying multiple assets including the HQ-9 missile system near Lahore. Pakistan subsequently admitted that one drone crashed near Lahore, and the Pakistan Air Force destroyed 12 drones in Gujranwala, Bahawalpur, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Attock.
