Air India Flight Skids Off Runway at Mumbai Airport After Landing; 3 Tyres Burst

An Air India Airbus (AIR.PA), opens new tab A320 jet go off track when it touched down in heavy rain at the Mumbai International Airport Monday, temporarily closing the runway and damaging the bottom of one of the engines of the aircraft.
Air India claimed all passengers as well as crew members have since disembarked, but did not confirm whether they were injured. The Air India flight AI 2744 had made flight to Mumbai to Kochi in southern Kerala state.

In a statement, the Mumbai airport reported that there were minor damages sustained to the main runway of the airport as there had been an incident of what it called a runway excursion and one of the secondary runways was activated so as to maintain operative continuity.
Air India went further to say that its aircraft had been grounded and require checks.
According to a report in Times of India quoting the sources three tyres of the plane burst off after landing. NDTV and India Today TV images depicted the outside cover of the engine to be ruined and there were some noticeable cracks.

Air India has once been under strong criticism following a crash of Boeing 787 Dreamliner last month in the Indian city of Ahmedabad, which resulted in the deaths of 260 people.
Earlier this month, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency said it would investigate its budget carrier Air India Express following Reuters report that the carrier failed to change parts of the engine of an Airbus A320 in a timely manner and falsified documents to show it had been done.
