India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that 487 Indians in the US have been issued final removal orders and face imminent deportation.

487 Indians in US Still Face Final Removal Orders: The Foreign Secretary of India, Vikram Misri, confirmed on Friday that the USA has informed India about 487 individuals referred to as Indian nationals, who have been given final orders of removal. Allegedly, these individuals might be deported at any moment. During the conference, Misri said that the Central Government was in touch with the US administration to facilitate the safe return of illegal immigrants. He suggested that the deportees are being monitored very closely by the Indian government and are in coordination with US authorities to address issues pertaining to these deportations.

On the standard procedures followed by US immigration authorities, Misri said, "The description by the EAM of the standard operating procedure relating to the use of restraints which has been communicated to us by US authorities including the immigration and customs enforcement. EAM attracted attention to the fact that these have been in practice for a long period."
Mistreatment Of Deportees 'Valid Concern': Misri
Misri accepted the mistreatment of deportees as an "valid concern" and assured that the Indian government will take it up with the US authorities.

"We will continue to take up any instances of mistreatment that come to our attention. Action needs to be taken across the system against the underlying ecosystem that thrives on promoting illegal immigration," he stated.
