4 Killed in Explosion at Firecracker Factory in West Bengal’s Nadia District
At least four people were killed on Friday afternoon at an explosion in a firecracker factory in West Bengal's Nadia district, officials said.

4 Killed in Explosion at Firecracker Factory: The firecracker factory explosion in Nadia district, West Bengal, left at least four people dead, said officials, adding that a rescue operation was underway.
Police said that upon reaching the site, they called in fire services. They suspect the figure could rise.

They recovered at least four charred bodies from the site and reported serious injuries to one. The bodies and the injured man were taken to JNM Hospital in Kalyani.
“The explosion has damaged the entire factory. Initially, we recovered four charred bodies and the process of dousing the flames is on," a police officer said.

According to eyewitnesses, the blast occurred at around 1 pm in Kalyani's Rathtala area. Residents stated the victims were factory workers.
"A few persons have told us that this area was very crowded, and we have received information that the factory was operating without proper permissions," a police official said. The investigation will now focus on how the factory managed to operate."
West Bengal has witnessed multiple incidents of explosions at firecracker factories in the last few years. Nearly six months ago, similar incidents were reported from a factory each in Champahati and Diamond Harbour in the South 24 Parganas district.
