Heatwave Scorches Delhi and Pune as Temperatures Soar Across India | IMD Issues Alerts

According to the weather department, up and about April 10, temperatures as in parts of India can be expected to continue to abate whole or some short very much temporary spell.

IMD Issues Alerts: Mercury is expected to soar in a major part of the country, with heatwave conditions in Northwest India expected to peak around April 10, and light rainfall likely to be witnessed thereafter.

According to the India Meteorological Department, these conditions of heat in other places will get a respite after April 10 as the associated rains would bring the temperature down.

Rainfall over Northeast India is likely to prevail until April 12.

Here are the latest weather updates across the country:
  1. On Tuesday, the IMD-that is the Indian Meteorological Department-issued a heatwave warning for the next two days in Delhi-NCR. The met department has also predicted slight rain on 11 April.
  2. Northwest India in other areas such as Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and west Uttar Pradesh are likely to have heatwave conditions till April 10. After this, rain is expected.
  3. Severe heatwave conditions are likely to prevail over Rajasthan, especially in pockets of the state till April 9. The highest maximum temperature of 45.6 degrees C was recorded in Barmer on Monday.
  4. In these parts of the country, heatwave conditions nevertheless continue in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh with warmer nights until the 10th of April. Similarly, hot and humid weather is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Goa, and Kerala.
  5. With 40.2 degrees recorded in the capital on Monday, doctors warned that prolonged exposure to the rapid sunny weather may create mild rashes, muscle cramps through excessive sweating, or severe health concerns like heat strokes.
  6. On Monday, the IMD placed a yellow alert for Mumbai and adjoining areas-Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg-where hot and humid weather is likely to prevail until April 10. More than ever these are considered vulnerable places: People should avoid daytime outdoor activities unless absolutely necessary, especially those who are vulnerable: the elderly, young children, pregnant women, and those with chronic illnesses.
  7. The IMD anticipates rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya as a result of a low-pressure area developing over the Bay of Bengal. Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh will also witness isolated hailstorms on April 9 due to a fresh western disturbance.
  8. In Pune, the IMD has told its residents to avoid going outside between 11 am and 4 pm after Kwaagad's Lohegaon Station recorded 42.2 degrees Celsius-the season's highest-so far.
  9. Also, the IMD has predicted rainfall in Bengaluru for the days leading to April 12. Being inundated by rains, several districts of Karnataka witnessed some dry spell toward the end of March.
  10. Rain with thunderstorms is also likely in most parts of Odisha over the next three days, according to the IMD, which has issued a yellow alert for several districts in the state. Heavy rainfall is expected in Rayagada, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, and Kalahandi.
