Recently on Monday, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has inaugurated the second phase of metro in Ahmedabad which joins twin cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

Vande Metro in Gujarat: Recently on Monday, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi has inaugurated the second phase of metro in Ahmedabad which joins twin cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
The purpose of this expansion is thus to increase access, decrease travel time, and thus transport interactions between the two expanding metropolitan areas.
Prime Minister Modi traveled on the new Metro model from the moment of its opening where the first station was Sector 1 in Gandhinagar up to GIFT City also known as new Metro line.
The Prime Minister was joined by the Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel while attending the event. While in the trip, Modi was able to engage with students and other fellow passengers boarded in the flight.

Out of a total length of 38. 52km, only the new and inaugurated stretch of phase II measures 21km and has as many as eight stations as part of the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation’s master plan.
This phase further expands the Ahmedabad Metro network connecting major places and establishing straight line connectivity with GNLU and PDEU and Raysan, Randesan, Infocity and more importantly GIFT city which is kind of lifeline for the city.
The project an inter-government undertaking between Central and state Government of Gujarat is being implemented through loans from international financial institutions namely Agence Française de Développement (AFD) & KfW bank at an estimated cost of RS. 5384 crore.
Reduced travelling time between the two cities are anticipated to be achieved through the extension of the bridge.
For example, which earlier took over one and half an hours to cover a distance from APMC-Ahmedabad to GIFT City is now possible in less than 60 minutes. For this journey the fare has been fixed at Rs 35 only.

- Infocity
- Sector 1, Gandhinagar
- GIFT City
New route have direct relation with GIFT City which is a new international financial hub and hoped to provide easy commutation for employees and investors which definitely going to boost the economy of Gujarat.

This development is a welcome in the sense that people such as corporate employees, students, and tourists among them benefit significantly from the social conveniences that come with the relationship betwween the two cities.
Earlier, both Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar were struggling in terms of connectivity and many areas were experiencing road blockages which lead to misconnections.
With two metro corridors now operational in Ahmedabad, the new phase from Motera to Gandhinagar’s sector 1 phase is expected to solve existing nagging transportation problems and also facilitate better transport connectivity between the twin cities.
