Uttarakhand Forest Fire: 8 Fresh Forest Fires in 24 Hours, IAF Assists in Firefighting for 2nd Day

Uttarakhand Forest Fire: Forest fires continue to rage in Uttarakhand's Nainital district, with the Indian Air Force engaged in firefighting operations on Sunday (April 28).

A Bambi bucket was used in some regions to douse fires by pouring large amounts of water on them in relatively short intervals.
Firefighting operations in Uttarakhand's forests continued on Sunday with the help of an Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopter, with the blaze brought under control in several areas.
According to him, the recent increase in forest fire incidents in Kumaon was caused by increased dryness due to a heat wave in the lower parts of Champawat and Nainital districts of Uttarakhand.

Efforts are being made to put out ongoing forest fires and prevent new ones in Nainital, Haldwani, and Ramnagar.
Narendranagar forest division's Maniknath range, including the Marora and Khanana civil areas, has been extinguished by several fires.
The forest department will also reward anyone who reports someone setting a fire in the forest to the authorities, he said.
Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat said besides the IAF helicopter and Army personnel, Prantiya Rakshak Dal volunteers and home guards have also been drafted in to help fight the fire.

In order to douse the flames, the Indian Air Force has deployed a Mi-17 V5 helicopter in Nainital and nearby areas. The helicopter collects water from the Bhimtal lake in a Bambi bucket with a capacity of 5,000 liters and pours it onto the burning forests.
According to the forest department's daily bulletin, eight new forest fires have destroyed 11.75 hectares in the last 24 hours, compared to 23 such fires that damaged 34.175 hectares from Friday evening to Saturday evening.
Even though the cause of these fires is unknown, here are a few things that contribute to forest fires.
On Saturday, helicopters extinguished a fire on the Nainital-Bhowali road, according to Kumaon's Chief Conservator of Forest Prasanna Kumar Patro.
In Uttarakhand, 606 forest fires have destroyed 735.815 hectares since November 1, 2023.
