UP Dalit Woman Found Dead in Sack: Family Alleges Murder Over BJP Support

UP Dalit Woman Found Dead in Sack: In the town of Karhal, under the Saharanpur unit of Uttar Pradesh, a 23-year-old Dalit woman was found dead in a sack. Her relatives charged that a worker associated with the Samajwadi Party has been threatening her against casting her ballot for the Bharatiya Janata Party during the forthcoming bye-elections.

The police arrested two men, Prashant Yadav and Mohan Katheria, after the lady’s father filed a report.

As per reports by NDTV, Vinod Kumar, who is the Mainpuri district police chief, stated that victim’s family has alleged that she was murdered because of her intent to vote for the BJP.

Victim’s father narrates how Prashant had come home three days prior to her death and demanded to know which political party she was intending to vote for in the by-elections. The woman replied that she would vote for the BJP because her family had been given a house under PM Awaz Yojana. Yadav allegedly threatened her after that, ordering her not to vote for the BJP but for the SP’s cycle symbol instead. Her father asserts that Yadav later murdered her after she refused to do so.

UP BJP chief Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary addressed the press and made allegations against the Samajwadi Party in connection with the assassination of the woman.

The Samajwadi Party has not yet offered an official denial to the accusation of murder.

The murder has sent ripples across the political divide because there are by-elections in nine assembly constituencies in the state. The constituencies include Karhal as well as Katehari, Mirapur, Ghaziabad, Majhawan, Sisamau, Khair, Phulpur and Kundarki. Counting of the votes is scheduled for November 23.

Karhal was earlier represented by the prominent Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav before he got elected to the Parliament as the MP for Kannauj.
