Tragic Landslides in Wayanad: On Tuesday, the Wayanad district was hit by massive landslides that caused huge damage to the properties and took a lot of lives.
As per the recent reports, a total of 56 people are reported to be dead and several people are still trapped.
The landslides took place near Meppadi in several hilly regions around 2 AM to 4 AM and caused severe damage to the lives and property of of Mundakai and Chooralmala. Area in Kerala.
Rescue operations are already being executed but they are facing difficulties in reaching the affected regions.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) reported that they have disposed the Fireforce and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to the affected regions to save as much as people possible.
The authorities have also introduced an additional NDRF team to the affected areas.

In a Facebook post, KSDMA said that the teams from the Kannur Defence Security Corps are already executing rescue operations and now the rescue team has saved more than 250 people in Wayanad.
In a statement, Health Minister of Kerala, Veena George said, “We have received five bodies, but hundreds of people are trapped under the mud. Rescue operations are in and we are trying to save all the lives More than 50 injured in different hospitals and four bodies have reached Meppadi CHC .”
She further said, “It is very difficult for the rescue workers to reach Mundakai but they are trying. In the Mundakai area hundreds of people are trapped.”
People who were rescued reported that a lot of people were trapped and due to the heavy rain it became difficult for the rescue team to execute their tasks.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow in a tweet, he wrote, “Distressed by the landslides in parts of Wayanad. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones and prayers with those injured.
He further said, “Rescue ops are currently underway to assist all those affected. Spoke to Kerala CM Shri @pinarayivijayan and also assured all possible help from the Centre in the wake of the prevailing situation there.”

In a statement, UDF MLA T Siddique said, “Currently, we have no complete information about those missing and dead in the landslides. Many areas have been cut off. NDRF personnel are trying to reach those places.”
