Shubhanshu Shukla on ISS Visible Over Tamil Nadu Skies
Dr. Chrisphin Karthick of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics followed and captured ISS on camera. To time the shot precisely he used the app ISS Detector.

It was sky time in India, where the day uses to die with a day in its life. An astronomer observed an International Space Station (ISS) fly overhead and an astronaut, Shubhanshu Shukla, on board, enthused astronomers on the ground.
The images were taken of the old Kodaikanal Solar Observatory set in the Palani Hills of Tamil Nadu. The observatory has been monitoring the Sun more than 100 years. It was staring upwards this time towards the night sky.

An Indian based astronomer Dr. Chrisphin Karthick of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics traced and captured the image of ISS. He timed the shot by using the ISS Detector app. In the case shown, he used a 28 000 km/h station and his camera, ISO 4000 and a shutter velocity of 1/17 second were in place as the station flashed by.
The observatory was located on an altitude of 2343 meters, which assured a dust free scene. The space station looked like a white lightning that was going in the sky very fast. Its height of 400 kilometres enabled it to be perceived with the naked eye.
Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla was on board ISS to further his mission. He becomes the first Indian to stay in space station. His activity promotes Indian science and space research around the world.

The ISS flyby was not just the technological breakthrough as it was witnessed in the Indian skies. This was a testimony of the increased Indian activity in space. The picture of the observatory was one of the successful contributions to the long history of astronomical achievements.
The wonder was also enjoyed by the people. As Shukla was overhead the pictures acted as a reminder of the increase of India amongst the stars.
