Sonam Raghuvanshi’s Call History to ‘Sanjay Verma’ (Raj Kushwaha) Becomes Lead in Honeymoon Murder Case
A major breakthrough has emerged in the investigation into the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, with Meghalaya Police revealing that the mysterious contact “Sanjay Verma” saved on prime accused Sonam Raghuvanshi’s phone was actually her alleged lover and co-conspirator Raj Kushwaha.

Sonam Raghuvanshi’s Call History to ‘Sanjay Verma’ (Raj Kushwaha): A major breakthrough has emerged in the investigation into the murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, with Meghalaya Police revealing that the mysterious contact “Sanjay Verma” saved on prime accused Sonam Raghuvanshi’s phone was actually her alleged lover and co-conspirator Raj Kushwaha.
According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, Sonam had saved Kushwaha’s number under a fictitious name to allegedly avoid suspicion.
“Sanjay Verma is just a fictitious name registered in Truecaller, and the real person holding that SIM number is actually Raj Kushwaha,” PTI quoted SP Syiem.
Meanwhile, the probe revealed that Sonam and Raj exchanged 234 phone calls in a 39-day span (March 1 and April 8) — each call lasting between 30 and 60 minutes, reported NDTV, citing official records.
Earlier, Sonamh's brother, Govind Raghuvanshi, had told reporters on Wednesday that he did not know any “Sanjay Verma.”
“I don’t know anything about Sanjay Verma... I also learned today that Sanjay’s name is coming up in this,” he told the media.
Sonam Raghuvanshi, arrested for the murder of her husband while on honeymoon in Meghalaya, made over 100 phone calls to a man named Sanjay Verma in the weeks leading up to her marriage. It has now come to light that Verma was a fake identity used by her boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha.

According to Indore Police sources, Sonam (24) contacted the number registered under the name Sanjay Verma 112 times between March 1 and March 25. Sonam used to have long conversations with the person on the other end, the sources said.
A senior police officer said, "This identity confusion was part of a larger plan to conceal their affair. They used this name to avoid suspicion from family members while plotting Raja's murder over phone conversations."
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Indore, Rajesh Dandautia, said, "A team from Shillong Police is present in Indore and is closely investigating all related aspects. The identity of Sanjay Verma was a key breakthrough in this case."
Sonam's brother, Govind, said, "Sonam used two phones, but I have no idea who owned the third one she kept using."
A week later, the "missing" Sonam was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur. During interrogation, she allegedly confessed to her husband’s murder and named Kushwaha and three hitmen — Vishal Chauhan, Anand Kurmi, and Akash Rajput — as co-conspirators. All four were arrested by Indore Police.
"Sonam was present at the scene and watched her husband die," said Assistant Commissioner of Police Poonam Chand Yadav in an interview .

On Wednesday, a Special Investigation Team from Meghalaya visited Indore and questioned Sonam’s family for over two hours. The team also visited Kushwaha’s residence and spoke with his mother for about 30 minutes.
Both Sonam and Raj's families are under scrutiny. Shillong Police have interrogated them for several hours, attempting to understand the extent of their knowledge or possible involvement.
It is understood that during the investigation, Sonam was also questioned over a video call in the presence of her family members.
Sources also reveal that a suitcase taken by Sonam from Raja's home is also under examination. Investigators believe it may hold vital evidence, and Sonam's relatives are being repeatedly questioned about it.
Police believe Sonam and Raj used code names and secrecy to plan Raja's murder, intending to keep their affair hidden. A Shillong Police official said, "The case is revealing new layers every day. We are committed to uncovering the full truth and delivering justice."
