Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad Sparks Row: ‘South Indians Run Dance Bars’ Comment After Slapgate
Sanjay Gaikwad refused to express regret for his behavior and threatened to refrain from hitting someone if it were to happen again.

Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad Sparks Row: Only a day back Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad was in the controversy over a viral video in which he was seen beating up an employee of a canteen in Mumbai and now the legislator has created another new row. This time by making arrogant comments against South Indians.
He also asserted the fact that the South Indians should not be given food contracts because they operate dance bars and ladies bars and they do not know how to serve nice food.

"Why was a contractor named Shetty given the contract? Give it to a Marathi person. They know what we eat and will give us good quality food. South Indians run dance bars, ladies bars, and spoil Maharashtra's culture. They have corrupted our children. How will they serve good food?" the Eknath Shinde-led party's legislator said while speaking to India Today TV.
On Wednesday, a video of the Buldhana MLA abusing and slapping a canteen operator went viral in the social media and this invited the wrath of several leaders including the chief minister of the state Devendra Fadnavis.
Gaikwad was filmed in an angry mood of making everyone smell a packet of dal at the Akashvani hostel in Mumbai which is meant to be served to MLAs. He later asks the contractor to inhale the content in the packet and proceeds to beat him up and kick him.
Afterwards, addressing the news agency PTI, the Sena MLA did not show any remorse over the incident and stated that when a person fails to comprehend democratic language, then he has to take recourse to this type of language.
CM Fadnavis Speaking on this, CM Fadnavis blasted the action of Gaikwad and stated that this action does not portray the right message. The formal complaint, he said is the way to go, in case there is any problem concerning the food.
Deputy chief minister and Shiv Sena supremo Eknath Shinde has also said that he had disciplined Gaikwad on his action. "I told him he should have resorted to league measures, like lodging a complaint. What he did was wrong. I cannot be justified, even though he was expressing anguish over the poor quality of food in the MLA canteen, Shinde said.

Following the entire saga that occurred at the Akashvani hostel yesterday, on Wednesday a team of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) went into the canteen to check on the quality of food available there and by the end of the day, the license of the contractor running the canteen was suspended.
Cooking of the food was taking place in unhygienic conditions; this was not the only reason why the FDA team suspended the license since the total reasons were 79.
Despite all of this, Gaikwad remained unrepentant about his behavior and threatened to do it again without hesitation. "The manager and the license have been suspended. I did not hit the waiter. I hit the manager. My method may have been wrong, but the goal was right. I will hit again if someone repeats such an act. The administration engages in give-and-take, which causes delays in action. Why was a contractor named Shetty given the contract? Give it to a Marathi person instead," the MLA reiterated.
