Saif Ali Khan Knife Attack: Suspect Caught on CCTV, First Video Surfaces

Saif Ali Khan Knife Attack: Several stab wounds to actor Saif Ali Khan were pronounced by police from an unidentified assailant early on Thursday morning at his Bandra Apartment. The intruder, suspected to be up to no good, had broken in from the building's fire escape. The attack occurred at approximately 2:30 am while Khan and family were at home on the 12th floor of the luxury apartment block at Bandra West.

The Suspect Caught on CCTV

After the attack, the police released CCTV images of an unidentified person who was seen running from the scene down the stairwell of the building. The footage, filmed at 2:33 am, shows the suspect donning a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, carrying a backpack and wearing what looked like an orange scarf. The police described the intruder as being in his late 30s, of a slim build, and having a dark complexion. At one point, he was seen walking down the stairs and directly into the camera.

A Look at How the Attacker Accessed the Apartment

The attacker apparently intended to drive with the aim of robbing Khan's apartment. Gaining entry to the building, the attacker scaled an outer wall adjacent to the compound and, having reached the floor where the Khans' apartment resides, he entered via the fire escape.

Saif Ali Khan Confronts the Intruder

Eliyama Phillipes was the first one to spot the intruder; she is a nurse from Saif Ali Khan's household. On noticing the attacker, she screamed, thus alerting the household who were then awoken. Saif Ali Khan confronted the attacker in a bid to save his family from the assailant's attack. The intruder then stabbed Khan several times. In a police report, Eliyama detailed that the attacker, with a sharp blade and a piece of stick, first demanded Rs 1 crore from her.

She resisted, and in kicking her across the room, he caused her lacerations to her wrists and hands.

The commotion woke the nanny, Junu, who raised the alarm. Saif Ali Khan and his wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, rushed to the scene. In the scuffle, Khan received cuts on the neck, spine, and left hand. Another staff member, Geeta, was also injured while trying to intervene. The intruder fled the scene before further assistance could arrive.

Emergency Surgery and Recovery

Saif Ali Khan was placed in an auto rickshaw and rushed to Lilavati Hospital by his son, Ibrahim, and a caretaker. Dr. Niraj Uttamani, COO of Lilavati Hospital, confirmed that the actor was admitted around 3:00 a.m., having suffered multiple injuries.

Dr. Nitin Dange, who headed the surgery, stated that the actor, with a knife stuck in his spine, had sustained a severe injury to the thoracic spinal cord. “A surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair leaking spinal fluid. Two other deep wounds on his left hand and one other on his neck were repaired by the plastic surgery team,” said Dr. Dange. Fortunately, the actor is now stable. “He is completely stable now. He is recovering well and out of danger,” he added.

Investigation Underway as Cops Probe Attempted Robbery

A case of armed robbery with attempted murder has been registered by the police, who are looking into the matter. Initial investigation indicates that the intruder may have possibly planned to rob the Khans' apartment but was thwarted by his encounter with Saif Ali Khan. According to Sub-Inspector Suraj Irakte of the Bandra police, the attacker didn't attempt to enter forcefully into the flat. Instead, he fled and probably sneaked in through the fire exit sometime during the night.

The police are examining CCTV footage for further clues as the investigation continues. The intruder is believed to have escaped via the beautiful building's staircase. The police have formed multiple other teams to catch and find him.

This incident caused agitation about the safety and security of high-profile people in Mumbai. The Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, while acknowledging the gravity of the attack, insisted that the city is one of the safest in the country. “It is true that some incidents take place sometimes, and they must be taken seriously. But to say that Mumbai is unsafe due to such incidents is not right," he stated. He assured that the government would continue the efforts to strengthen security.

The attack has raised concerns about safety, particularly in the context of celebrities in Mumbai. Reports say the actor's wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and other family members were present at the time of the incident, although they were not harmed.
