The accused in the Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan attack case, identified as Mohammad Shariful Islam, was arrested after days of manhunt by the Mumbai Police and Crime Branch in Thane.
After the arrest, Shariful was sent to 5-day police custody by a Mumbai court.

As per the Mumbai police, the accused is a Bangladeshi national and had changed his name to Bijoy Das after entering India illegally.
It was further found that the accused was working as housekeeping staff at Ricky’s bar in Thane. The Mumbai Police will now be taking the accused to the residence of the actor to recreate the crime scene.
In the early morning hours of January 16, the actor was stabbed six times in his neck and shoulder by the accused who had entered his Bandra West apartment with the intention of theft.

Reacting to the recent attack on actor Saif Ali Khan, Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske raised concerns about the growing security threats posed by migrant labourers.
Speaking on the incident, Mhaske said, "The nationality of the labourers coming here should be checked. They enter India to work, but some end up committing crimes and engaging in terrorism."
In the wake of the Bangladeshi accused who has been arrested in the actor Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, actress Bhagyashree said that there is a need to secure our borders.
“We should secure our borders,” said the actress. The accused has been sent to a five-day police custody and will be taken to the actor’s residence to recreate the crime scene.
