Rifle and Pistol Shooters gear up for Mixed Team events as Skeet Shooters bow out

On Tuesday, July 27, 2021, both the 10M Air Pistol Mixed Team and 10M Air Rifle Mixed Team competitions will make their Olympic debuts.

Rifle and Pistol Shooters gear up for Mixed Team events as Skeet Shooters bow out

New Delhi: After the big disappointment in individual shooting events of Tokyo Olympic Games 2020 India's Top Air Pistol and Air Rifle shooters are geared up to compete in the Mixed Team events.

On Tuesday, July 27, 2021, both the 10M Air Pistol Mixed Team and 10M Air Rifle Mixed Team competitions will make their Olympic debuts. These events have become quite interesting as men and women of the same country participate as a team. The International Olympic Committee has included these Mixed Events in many Games such as Shooting, Archery, Swimming, Athletics, Judo, Table Tennis and Triathlon as a part of it's commitment towards Gender equality in sports.

The young duo of Saurabh Choudhary and Manu Bhaker will be strong contenders for a medal in 10M Air Pistol Mixed Team events. They have won together many medals in World Cups, so they will put all their effort to give their best performance. Another Indian pair of Abhishek Verma & Yashaswini Singh Deswal will also compete in the same event. Both of them are also capable of winning a medal.

India team pairs of Divyansh Singh Panwar & Elavenil Valarivan and Deepak Kumar & Anjum Moudgil will show their metal in the 10M Air Rifle Mixed Team competition.

Meanwhile at the Asaka Shooting range on Monday, day three, of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Shooting competition, India’s Angad Bajwa finished 18thin the qualifiers with a score of 120 and Mairaj Ahmad Khan ended 25thwith 117, to bow out of the Men’s Skeet event.

Vincent Hancock of the USA won his third Olympic gold with a score of 59 out of 60 in the Men’s Skeet final, with Denmark’s former world champion Jesper Hansen winning silver and Kuwait’s Abdullah Alrashidi repeating his bronze-winning effort from the previous Rio Games.

Here is a snapshot of what is in store in the Mixed Team Air Pistol and Air Rifle events on Tuesday.

10M Air Pistol Mixed Team

Format
- 1stqualification round: three series of 10-shots by each team member
- 2ndqualification round: top eight pairs of 1stround to shoot two series of 10-shots by each team member
- Medal rounds:
o Bronze medal match- Team 3 (2ndround) v Team 4 (2ndround)
o Gold medal match- Team 1 (2ndround) v Team 2 (2ndround)

- Finals Scoring:
o Team with a higher combined score of single shots fired by each team member on command gets two points with one point for a tie
o First team to 16 points with a difference of two wins

10M Air Rifle Mixed Team

- 2ndqualification round: top eight pairs of 1stround shoot two series of 10-shots by each team member

o Gold medal match- Team 1 (2ndround) v Team 2 (2ndround)
