Ram Gopal Varma Reveals Big Hindi Producer’s Disdain for ‘Pushpa’ Actor: Ram Gopal Varma, the filmmaker, opened up about the Indian film industry and its rise of late in the name of the ‘pan-India’ phenomenon. He recalled all the nasty remarks made by a veteran producer of cinema on the first film Pushpa, with Allu Arjun cast in the lead. On the comments made by RGV, alluding to the enormous success of Pushpa: The Rise, and Pushpa 2: The Rule— "He must be having nightmares now." The filmmaker further maintained in an interview that what with their sensibilities, it would be impossible for a Hindi filmmaker to pull off making a Pushpa film.

In the words of RGV to Pinkvilla, Hindi filmmakers are restricted only to the area of Bandra. “Most of the South directors, I’m not going to take names, they can’t even speak English. They’re very basic; very rooted and connected. They will not talk intellectually. They are more connected to the mass audience, which, I think, is impossible for a Bollywood director to do,” he said.
The Hindi filmmakers, RGV said, cannot think of a movie like Pushpa 2, not because they cannot make it but because 'they don't think like that.' Narrating a story about what a prominent film producer said, RGV continued, “When he saw Pushpa 1, he told someone I know, ‘North audience will puke on this guy’s face’. I don’t think it has anything to do with money, it has to do with the character. (The producer) likes a guy with a six-pack, super good-looking… He must be having nightmares now, after Pushpa 1 and 2.”

In RGV's perception, there is a 'sensibility difference' in Bollywood. He stated clearly that it is not about the audience because films that are well made will be accepted anywhere in India. RGV continued, “Stars should always play stars; they shouldn’t play characters. If they change, you will disconnect. Even if you change, you should cater to the same emotion… In Bollywood, there is too much emphasis on the story. South directors only look at scenes, they don’t care about story. A big actor once told me, ‘I never listen to the story, my only question is, ‘Mera entry kya hai?'”
Most importantly, these two Pushpa films have become the biggest successes at the box office. Of the total, they have easily grossed over Rs 2000 crore worldwide, with the second movie, Pushpa 2, recently surpassing Baahubali 2: The Conclusion to become the second-highest-earning Indian film in history.
