Rahul Gandhi is about to make a comeback in the Jammu and Kashmir elections after staying invisible for the last 10 years from elections. He will lead 2 rallies there in the Ramban and Anantnag districts on Wednesday, The aim of the the campaign is to gather public support there from people there for his new alliance with the National Conference.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and around 40 other campaigners will accompany Rahul Gandhi in the hope of getting support for the upcoming three-phased Assembly polls in Kashmir.
"Rahul ji will kickstart the party's campaign from tomorrow. He will address two public rallies in Ramban and Anantnag districts in support of Congress candidates on Wednesday," Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Tariq Hamid Karra told PTI.
The Polling to select 90 members of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly will be held on September 18, 25, and October 1. The counting of votes will take place on October 8.

Congress released its 2nd list of candidates on Monday. Congress has selected Tariq Hameed Karra from the Central Shalteng constituency, Mumtaz Khan from the Reasi constituency, Bhupender Jamwal from the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi constituency, Iftkar Ahmed from Rajouri (ST) constituency, Shabir Ahmad Khan from Thannamandi (ST) constituency and Mohd Shahnawaz Choudhary from Surankote (ST) constituency.

Ghulam Ahmad Mir will be running from Dooru, Vikar Rasool will run from Banihal Peerzada, Mohd Syed from the Anantnag constituency, and Sheikh Riaz will run for the Doda seat. The National Conference will deploy its candidate for 51 seats and Congress will contest 32 seats while fighting for two seats against each other. Samajwadi Party has shown its support for the alliance as well in the Jammu and Kashmir polls.
7 seats in the election poll are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and 9 for Scheduled Tribes (STs). These are the first elections after abolishment of the Article 370.
