Rahul Gandhi Increased Investment in Stock Market: In the last ten years, Rahul Gandhi has significantly increased his exposure to the Indian equity market, owning shares worth Rs 4.33 crore and mutual funds worth Rs 3.81 crore.
According to Gandhi's latest affidavit filed ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the total valuation, stocks, and mutual funds combined is worth Rs 8.14 crore until March 15, 2024.
Compared to his investment history in 2019, Gandhi seemed conservative in his investments. He held Rs 5.19 crore in mutual funds, but he didn't invest directly in stocks. Similarly, Rahul Gandhi held less than Rs 1 crore in mutual funds in 2014 when the Congress lost power to the BJP and failed to retain power.
There were no direct investments in the stock market at the time. He held mutual funds worth Rs 81.28 lakh.
Based on his latest affidavit, Gandhi holds Pidlite Industries, Bajaj Finance, Nestle India, Asian Paints and Titan. His biggest stock is Pidlite Industries, valued at Rs 42.27 lakh.

Asian Paints Ltd, Bajaj Finance Ltd and Nestle India Ltd all gave him 29.30% returns in the last year. He owns shares worth Rs 35-36 lakh each. Among mid-cap and small-cap stocks, he owns shares of GMM Pfaudler worth Rs 14 lakh, Deepak Nitrite worth Rs 11.92 lakh, Tube Investments of India worth Rs 12.10 lakh, Fine Organics worth Rs 8.56 lakh and Info Edge worth Rs 4.45 lakh.
A total of Rs 1.23 crore was invested in HDFC Small Cap Reg-G and Rs 1.02 crore was invested in ICICI Prudential Reg Savings-G, according to Rahul Gandhi's mutual fund portfolio. A total of Rs 81.28 lakh was the combined net asset value of the two mutual funds in his portfolio back in 2014: the 'Templeton India Low Duration Monthly Dividend Reinforcement Fund' and the 'HDFC Cash Management Treasury Adv Ret Weekly Dividend Reinforcement Fund.'
It's interesting that the 'Templeton India Low Duration Monthly Dividend Rein' is the same fund Franklin Templeton closed down in April 2020 amid severe market illiquidity following COVID-19.
Gandhi had exited this fund a year before it closed, instead going for Franklin India Equity-G and Franklin India Debt Hybrid.

The largest holding Gandhi had in 2019 was 33,037 Aditya Birla Sunlife units worth Rs 74.90 lakh, followed by Franklin India Equity-G units worth Rs 73.77 lakh. He also invested in ICICI Prudential Regular L&T Equity-G and Motilal Oswal Multicap.

Gandhi's commercial property in Gurugram has appreciated by only 3.31% in the last five years, from Rs 8.75 crore in 2019 to Rs 9.04 crore in 2024. He purchased the property for Rs 7.93 crore.
In FY21, he purchased 220 units of Sovereign Gold Bonds, which are issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on behalf of the Government of India.
Despite Gandhi's not investing in physical gold in the last ten years, these bonds are denominated in grams of gold and are a substitute for holding physical gold. The value of Gandhi's gold jewelry grew to Rs 4.20 lakh as of 15 March 2024 from 333.300 grams of gold jewelry he owned in 2014. Gandhi and sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra own land worth Rs 2.10 crore in Mehrauli, New Delhi.
During the same period, Gandhi's annual income dropped from Rs 1.11 crore in FY18, before the previous general elections, to Rs 1.02 crore in FY23. He had seen a steady rise in income until FY22, when he disclosed Rs 1.31 crore in income tax returns.
In 2014, his investment was Rs 20.70 lakh, and in 2019 it was Rs 39.89 lakh, and in 2024, it was worth Rs 61.52 lakh. Gandhi said he had a total net worth of Rs 20.4 crore.
