Rahul Dravid Praises Rohit Sharma: ‘Fantastic Leader and Privilege to Work With’

Rahul Dravid has ended his service as Indian Team coach by the end of June. He started his reign as the head coach of Team India in November 2021 around the time when Rohit took the mantle of captain of the Indian team.

In his Last venture as head coach of the Indian Cricket team, Inia lifted an ICC trophy after 17 years by beating South Africa by 7 Runs. During a recent interview with Star Sports, he said about Rohit, “I can’t completely take all the credit. I believe the teams are really led by a group of senior players, led by the captain, so I think… It was a privilege to work with Rohit in these two and a half years. He was a fantastic leader. People really gravitate towards him. I think that makes a lot of difference."

He continued talking about other players “There are a lot of other senior players as well. Whether it was Virat, Bumrah, or Ashwin in Test cricket that we played, so many of them."

David opposed the rumors of Indian players being full of ego and having beef with each other all the time because of it. He said “So many people sometimes think that they have big egos and are, you know, very difficult to manage, but actually I think it’s just the opposite. You know a lot of these superstars are actually very humble about their preparation; they’re humble about their work ethic, and that is why they are superstars.

He added “It was a privilege and a pleasure to work with some of these guys, and I’m happy we were able to create a good environment, but a lot of the credit must go to the captain and the senior people who, to be honest, actually drive a team,"

He Told everyone at the event “I wasn’t sure if I was going to continue after the 50-Over World Cup. There was great joy in having had a fantastic campaign, but also a little bit of disappointment in the final that we couldn’t get over the line,” when Rohit called him and said ‘Rahul, let’s have one more crack at it in six or eight months’ time. It will be lovely to have a crack at it together.’ I am so thankful because I had the chance to work with an exceptionally great bunch of boys. But also to experience what I have experienced in Barbados and what I have done here. Truly grateful and probably one of the best phone calls that I have received in my life,”
