Most Expensive Gift of 2023: PM Modi took an opportunity in 2023 to gift a $20,0000 diamond to Jill Biden, to set the record for being the most expensive gift giver to the reigning First Family.

Jill and Joe Biden, the Presidential family have great terms with Indian PM Narendra Modi, and that has reflected on countless occasions, during international summits and conferences.

It was a 7.5-carat diamond, that had an exquisite making, and a touch of finesse. Although it is not known if Jill has flaunted this ring in any official event, the price of this ring has amazed many in the US.

In addition to the diamond, Modi presented Biden with several other items: a carved sandalwood box, a book titled The Ten Principal Upanishads, a statue, and an oil lamp, with a total estimated value of $6,232 (₹5,34,433).

While President Biden’s gifts were transferred to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), Jill Biden’s diamond was retained “for official use in the East Wing,” as noted in the State Department’s annual accounting.

The diamond will be turned over to the archives once Biden leaves the office later this month, Vanessa Valdivia, a spokesperson for Jill Biden was cited as saying. However, she did not specify what the diamond was used for.

Though rarely used, the gift recipients can also choose to purchase the gifts from the US government at their market value.

According to reports, she also received a brooch valued at $14,063 from the Ukrainian ambassador to the United States and a bracelet, brooch and photograph album worth $4,510 from the president and first lady of Egypt.

While the gift-giving may be extravagant, Jill Biden’s diamond is likely to remain a notable symbol of India’s diplomatic ties with the US.
