Plane Crashes at Kalispell City Airport in Montana: A big fire erupted after a small plane crashed into several parked planes at a Montana airport on Monday.
Four people were on the single-engine plane when it tried to land at Kalispell City Airport around 2 p.m. The pilot lost control, crashed onto the runway and hit several other planes, a preliminary investigation showed.
A preliminary investigation showed the pilot lost control, crashed onto the runway before the plane hit several parked planes, igniting fires on multiple planes, Kalispell police said. The fire spread to the grass before it was put out, Venezio said.
The small, city-owned airport is just south of Kalispell, a city of about 30,000 people in northwest Montana.

The passengers got out on their own after it stopped, Hagen said. Two were slightly hurt and treated at the airport, he said.
Eyewitnesses described a wild scene as the Socata TBM 700 turboprop came in from the south, losing control and crash-landing at the end of the runway before careening into multiple stationary planes. Kalispell Fire Chief Jay Hagen said it was a “massive fireball” with thick smoke visible everywhere.
Police Chief Jordan Venezio said “the pilot and three passengers walked away unharmed” but two were treated for minor injuries. Cell phone videos showed the burning wreckage and response, with Kalispell Police, fire crews and mutual aid from Evergreen, Smith Valley and Whitefish fire departments.

They worked together to get the flames out before they could spread and damage airport infrastructure and prevent a bigger disaster. Officials later said fuel from the damaged planes contributed to the intensity of the fire and made containment even harder.
Representative Ryan Zinke confirmed that there has been no reported injuries. “My staff is on site at the plane crash at the Kalispell City Airport. From what we understand, no one was injured, praise God. We will be assisting local authorities and the airport in any way we can as they handle this unfortunate accident," he said.
Details on the types of planes involved are still unknown as the investigation continues. The FAA will take over the inquiry.
As a precaution, Kalispell City Airport is closed until emergency personnel can secure the scene and assess any remaining risks.
