PhonePe CEO Sameer Nigam Faces Boycott Calls: The biggest social media company, Twitter also known as ‘X’ was filled with #BoycottPhonepe and #UninstallPhonepe after the CEO and co-founder of Phonepe Sameer Nigam spoke against the planned job reservation bill by the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government.
On Thursday, the CEO Phonepe Sameer Nigam in a tweet criticized the reservation bill that makes sure that Kannada-speaking people will get jobs in some private companies, he also asked if the children didn't deserve to be able to find work in their home city.
In the tweet shared by Sameer Nigam on his X handle, he wrote, “I am 46 years old. Never lived in a state for 15+ yrs. My father worked in the Indian Navy. Got posted all over the country. His kids don't deserve jobs in Karnataka? I build companies. Have created 25000+ jobs across India! My kids don't deserve jobs in their home city?”
After the Phonepe CEO criticized the bill, several social media users were annoyed with his remarks and urged to boycott and uninstall Phonepe.

However, On the microblogging platform ‘X’ the hashtags #UninstallPhonePe and #BoycottPhonePe were trending and several people across Twitter shared many screen recordings of them uninstalling Phonepe from their phones.
One user wrote on X, “Hi all Kannadigas, this guy is a Founder and CEO of PhonePe and he is openly against Kannadigas and interests of Karnataka. Please uninstall PhonePe in your mobiles and try to use GooglePay or any other Apps of your choice.”
Another one said, “I always preferred @PhonePe over any other UPI apps due to its Swadeshi origin. @_sameernigam, Karnataka helped you to grow up. You came here to build your career, not to improve Bengaluru. This is the time to say goodbye to PhonePe.”
News18 reported that the bill claimed that locals could only hold 75% of non-management jobs and 50% of management jobs in the private sector.
After the criticism from several opposition parties, the government put the reservation bill on hold the next day and wrote in a tweet on X, “The draft Bill intended to provide reservations for Kannadigas in private sector companies, industries, and enterprises is still in the preparation stage. A comprehensive discussion will be held in the next cabinet meeting to make a final decision.”
