‘Peeche Jao’: Haridwar Stampede Video Shows Chaos, 6 Dead
Hundreds of pilgrims had thronged up the hilltop Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar on Sunday to worship when the stampede started at about 9 am.

‘Peeche Jao’: A video of the stampede that occurred in a temple in Uttarakhands Haridwar on Sunday has shown people trapped in the melee being shouted at urgently to go back into the crowd swelled in all directions, it finally left six people dead and several injured.
The Monday stampede occurred at the hilltop temple of Mansa Devi in Haridwar around 9 am when hundreds of faithful had thronged there on Sunday with the aim of making prayers.

It is a Sunday, which means that a huge number of devotees had assembled at the temple on top of the Shivalik Hills that were more than 500 feet above sea level.

Police said the stampede was caused after people panicked after rumours of an electric current where people begin to climb stairs to the temple.
Videos of the location revealed a huge mass of people, even women and kids, thronging their way to the temple. Family members awaited information of their loved ones outside the hospital looking worried.
As one of the videos included a man desperately pleading with the crowd to go back, the other one included a person explaining the situation of chaos as well as showing children stretching to find any space in the stampede.
PM Modi offers condolence
Pramendra Singh Dobal, Senior Superintendent of Police, Haridwar told PTI news agency said that, about 35 people were taken to the hospital by ambulance, six of them died.
Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that a magisterial enquiry has been ordered.
"A stampede broke out at the Mansa Devi temple in the morning because of a rumour... We have ordered a magisterial probe into the incident, and those responsible for spreading the rumour will face strict action," Dhami said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi too responded on the stampede and stated that he was shocked over the loss of lives during the stampede.
"Condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. The local administration is assisting those affected," PM Modi said in a post on X.
Dhami told Facebook fans he was sad at the incident and that the situation was under control.
"Very sad news has been received about a stampede on the way to the Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar. SDRF, local police and other rescue teams have reached the spot and are engaged in relief and rescue operations," Dhami said in a post on Facebook.

"I am constantly in touch with the local administration in this regard, and the situation is being constantly monitored. I pray to Mata Rani for the safety of all the devotees," he added.
It is one of the five holy places or the Panch Tirtha of Haridwar and is devoted to Goddess Mansa Devi.
"Suddenly, a huge crowd gathered there and a stampede took place. During this, all the people fell and got hurt," news agency ANI quoted, a Bihari devotee whose hand got fractured in the stampede.
The secretary of disaster management of the state told that helpline numbers have been provided where people can know about those who have died or are injured in the accident.
Helpline numbers 1075, District Emergency Operation Center, Haridwar, are a part of the list.
