Indian Man Attacked with Machete in Melbourne: An Indian man Saurabh Anand was left badly injured after being attacked with a machete by a group of teenagers in Melbourne, Australia.
The incident happened around 7:30 pm on July 19 when the 33 year old was walking home from a pharmacy at the Central Square Shopping Centre in Altona Meadows.
The brutal assault left him with multiple injuries including a nearly severed hand which was later reattached during surgery.
One of the teens rummaged through his pockets, another punched him till he fell and a third brandished a machete at his throat. Anand raised his arm instinctively; the blade sliced through his wrist, hand and bone.“All I remember is the pain and my hand was … hanging by a thread,” he recalled from his hospital bed.
Apart from his nearly severed hand, Anand suffered stab wounds to his shoulder and back, fractured spine, multiple broken bones in his arm and head trauma.
"All I remember is the pain, and my hand was hanging by a thread," he said.
Saurabh, bleeding and in pain, managed to walk out of the area and call for help. He was rushed to the hospital where doctors initially thought they would have to amputate his hand. But they were able to reattach his hand.
According to Australian media four out of the five teens have been arrested.

A similar incident happened in Australia last week when an Indian man was allegedly brutally assaulted and racially abused by a group of men during a car parking dispute. The incident near Kintore Avenue happened when the man Charanpreet Singh was out to see the city’s light displays with his wife in their car around 9.22 pm.
Police have taken four of the five teens into custody. A 14 year old from Wyndham faces charges of intentionally causing serious injury, robbery and unlawful assault. Two 15 year olds and another 14 year old from Hobsons Bay have also been charged separately and will appear in court in August.
Anand is distressed that two of the accused have been released on bail. “I’m seeking justice… I want this to be a catalyst for change,” he said.
