Patna murder case and CM Nitish's response: Patna businessman murder

The murder of a leading businessman named Gopal Khemka in Patna on Friday night has created a stir and the Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar acted to it immediately on Saturday in a high level law and order review meeting with senior police officials and instructed stringent measures to control crimes in the state.

Nitish Kumar held a meeting at Sankalp office at O1 Anne Marg on Saturday and summoned the DGP and ADG Headquarters and senior police officers.

He gave categorical orders that control of crime should not be lax.

He said that severe action will be imposed on the officials and personnel who show laxity and criminal incidents will also investigate on time to ensure immediate punishment of the culprits.

In this meeting, DGP Vinay Kumar has informed the CM about the crime control activities and the Khemka Incident.

Crisily, Nitish Kumar received detailed data of the incidents of attack and had ordered that offenders should be tracked down and instant severe action be taken against them without discrimination.

He also added that in case there was any conspiracy into the incident then it had to be fully investigated.

He stressed upon the fact that the police and administration should be in a fully alert condition so that law and order in Bihar can be maintained.

On Friday, Gopal Khemka, owner of Magadh Hospital, was shot down by an unidentified bike borne gunman in the Gandhi Maidan locality of Patna.

The incident took place close to 11. 40 P. M. at the Panache Hotel in Gandhi Maidan region, which is one of the luxurious areas of Patna as Khemka was coming out of his car at his residence place.

“On the night of 4 July, around 11 PM, we received information from the Gandhi Maidan South area that businessman Gopal Khemka was shot dead. As soon as the information was received, the police reached the hospital and the crime scene. The area has been cordoned off, and an investigation is underway. CCTV footage is being examined. Further action will be taken," City SP Central, Diksha, said.

This has created political furor and has led to questions to the law and order in the state in the in run-up to forthcoming October-November 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.

The incident prompted the Leader of opposition, Tejashwi Yadav, calling the jungle raj, as the government claimed to have the good governance.
