Paris Paralympics 2024: Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj Defeats Sukant Kadam to Secure Medal Victory
Paris Paralympics 2024: During the COVID-19 pandemic, Suhas was the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar and the DM of Prayagraj. He put on a great show that earned him a spot in the final.
Paris Paralympics 2024: Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj of India beat Sukant Kadam of India in straight games to move on to the men's singles SL4 category final and make sure that India will win another medal at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
The all-Indian match was won by Suhas 21-17, 21-12.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Suhas was the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar and the DM of Prayagraj. He put on a great show that earned him a spot in the final.
He will now fight France's Lucas Mazur, who he lost to in the Tokyo Paralympics final three years ago and wants to make things right.
Next, Sukant will play Fredy Setiawan of Indonesia for the bronze title.
Suhas, a former computer engineer who is now an IAS officer, has never let the fact that he hurt his ankle stop him from playing badminton.

Right now, Suhas is the Secretary and Director-General of Youth Welfare and Prantiya Rakshak Dal for the Uttar Pradesh government. His trip from working in government to playing badminton shows how determined he is.
In the earlier match, Nitesh Kumar won his first medal in the men's singles SL3 group by beating Daisuke Fujihara of Japan in straight games to make it to the finals.
India has already won another medal; Manisha Ramadass confirmed a spot on the podium by setting up a match between herself and Thulasimathi Murugesan in the semi-finals of the women's singles SU5 event.
Oliwia Szmigiel of Poland lost to Nithya Sivan Sumathy in the women's singles SH6 quarterfinals. Nithya beat her 21-4, 21-7. In the semifinals, Nithya will play Lin Shuangbao of China. Lin is a tough opponent who has a 4-0 record against the Indian, including a win in the group rounds. If they win, they'll get another trophy.
