‘PAN PAN PAN’: An IndiGo flight from Delhi to Goa made an emergency landing at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on Wednesday evening after an engine malfunction.
The pilot of flight 6E-6271 sent out a ‘PAN PAN PAN’ distress signal after reporting engine number 1 failure. The aircraft landed safely in Mumbai under full emergency conditions.
The Airbus A320neo aircraft was carrying 191 people and took off from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport to Goa Airport when the engine issue forced it to make an emergency landing in Mumbai. It landed at 9:53 pm.
Mumbai airport officials told HT that the incident occurred when the IndiGo flight was 100 nautical miles north of Bhubaneswar.

At 9:32 pm, the crew requested emergency support at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. As per procedure, fire tenders and ambulances were put on standby as the aircraft approached. The flight landed at 9:53 pm – a bit ahead of schedule.
IndiGo later confirmed the incident, stating: “A technical snag was detected on flight 6E 6271 while flying from Delhi to Goa on July 16, 2025. Following standard protocols, the aircraft was diverted to Mumbai where it landed safely.”
All passengers and crew were safe. The aircraft has been grounded for inspection and maintenance. IndiGo is arranging an alternate aircraft to fly the affected passengers to Goa.

These technical snags have raised concerns among passengers and aviation authorities and now the focus is on safety checks and aircraft maintenance protocols.
“Passengers were safely deboarded and assisted by terminal staff. While the airline coordinates alternative onward travel for the passengers, CSMIA’s Terminal Operations team remains on standby to provide all necessary support," the airport spokesperson added.
Airport operations remained unaffected during the emergency. “There has been no impact on overall airport operations. At CSMIA, safety always remains our highest priority," the official said.
This is the second incident in two days involving an IndiGo flight. On Tuesday, another IndiGo flight took off again after touchdown at Patna’s Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport. The flight with 173 passengers aborted landing due to “unstable approach”. The aircraft landed safely after circling the airport.
