Abdelfattah Mahdi the brother of the Yemeni national has stood against any reconciliation and even granting of pardon in Kerala nurse case.
This has once again doubted the future course of the case since the pardon by the family of Mahdi could have been the only hope to bail out Nimisha Priya under the blood money enactment under the Yemen Sharia law.

The interim help to Nimisha Priya
In the same manner, Nimisha Priya and her family were about to lose hope when her execution was set aside on July 15, a day prior to her execution.
Though no formal verification on the reasons why the move was made, a Muslim scholar and the head of Muslims in India, has beencredited to bring relief to Nimisha and rest of the family through negotiations.
Kanthapuram AP Aboobacker Musliyar an Indian Sunni leader was said to negotiate in Yemen with the aid of a Sufi scholar in Yemen. The representatives of the scholar are said to have been met by the representatives of Mahdi family with a view of stopping the execution of Nimisha.
The Grand Mufti added that an offer of 'Diyaat' was arrived which was a compensation to be paid by Nimisha to the family of the victim. "In Islam, instead of killing, there is also a practice of giving Diya (compensation). I requested them to accept Diyaat as the party is ready here for it. There are talks going on about whether my request has to be accepted," the Grand Mufti was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
In addition to this, it is also reported that the Indian government had contacts on a personal level with people in Yemen to give some more to Priya family to reach an amicable solution with the other party.

What stated the family of the victim of Yemen?
One day after the execution of Nimisha has been stayed, his brother Talal Abdo Mahdi posted a Facebook message, repeating a request to execute her.
In a post made on Facebook and originally in the Arabic language, Abdelfattah Mahdi has argued that the family will not yield to any influences of reconciliation and holds firmly to the call of retribution.
“What is achieved and heard today from mediation and attempts for peace is nothing new or surprising. Throughout our years, there have been hidden pursuits and efforts to mediate. This is normal and expected...But the pressure has not changed anything in us. Our demand is retribution, nothing else,” Mahdi said in the post, verified by Hindustan Times.
Based in Yemen, Nimisha Priya ventured into the country due to her career purpose, where she joined hands with Talal Abdo Mahdi in 2014 to start a clinic. Nevertheless, he is accused of severely beating her and of threatening her. Trying to obtain her passport back in order to leave Yemen, in 2017 Nimisha sedated Mahdi, however, the dosage was lethal and he died.
Three years after, Nimisha was convicted to death and in 2023; the verdict was affirmed. The day when she will be executed was set on July 16, but the Kerala nurse is provisionally spared.
Where does Nimisha Priya move on to?
Though the deferment of the execution proved to be a major victory to Nimisha as well as to her family members and the negotiating parties, the ultimate objective to permanently release her and take her back to India is still there.
As the family of Talal Abdo Mahdi adamantly holds to their stand that she should be executed, uncertainty has once again been cast suggesting that, Nimisha would escape the death sentence.
