New Year’s Eve: Delhi Police Traffic Advisory, DMRC Metro Timings & Restrictions for Dec 31

The Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory for the public in view of the New Year celebrations in the national capital on Tuesday night, December 31.
If you plan to ring in the New Year at popular spots in the national capital, make sure to plan your route as the Delhi Police have announced major traffic diversions and restrictions for the public.

Additionally, the Delhi police have announced robust security arrangements, deploying nearly 20,000 police and paramilitary personnel to maintain law and order, officials said.
Traffic restrictions in Connaught Place
According to the advisory issued by the Delhi Police on X, no vehicles will be permitted to proceed towards Connaught Place area beyond several key points such as the roundabout at Mandi House, the roundabout at Bengali Market, the north foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road-Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg crossing, RK Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg crossing, roundabout Gole Market, roundabout GPO, and Kasturba Gandhi Road.
Additionally, as many as 11 CAPF companies and 40 motorcycle patrol teams alongside an equal number of foot patrol teams have been pressed into service.

Parking will also be limited in certain areas, with specific locations designated for parking near Gole Dak Khana, Patel Chowk, and Mandi House on a first-come, first-served basis. Unauthorised vehicles parked in such areas will face towing and penalties from the authorities.
Delhi metro restrictions for New Year
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has also issued an advisory, Starting 9 PM, passengers will not be allowed to exit from Rajiv Chowk Metro Station. However, entry will remain open until the departure of the last train. QR tickets for Rajiv Chowk will not be issued via the DMRC Mobile App after 8 PM.
"Commuters are requested to plan their journey accordingly," it added
"As advised by the police authorities, to ease overcrowding on New Year's Eve (December 31, 2023), exit from Rajiv Chowk metro station will not be allowed from 9 pm onwards. However, entry of passengers will be allowed till the departure of the last train from Rajiv Chowk metro station," read the DMRC statement.
Diversions and public transport
For those heading to New Delhi Railway Station, alternative routes have been suggested, such as using Ram Manohar Lohiya Park Street, Mandir Marg, and Rani Jhansi Road.
Public transport users are encouraged to utilise the metro.
Anticipating congestion, authorities have advised commuters to avoid Bhairon Road/Mathura Road between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan.
