Mumbai Tragedy: Girl Dies in BEST Bus Crash After First Day at New Job
On Monday, a Mumbai court sent BEST bus driver Sanjay More into police custody till December 21 following his involvement in an accident that killed seven people and injured 42 others.

Mumbai Tragedy: Police custody will have Sanjay More, who was the driver of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus accused in accident killing seven and injuring 42, until December 21, by Mumbai court. The driver has been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder in the incident that resulted from a horrific collision on Monday. Meanwhile, BEST sets up a committee to investigate this bus accident and declaration of values to the kin of the dead against it.

The bus of the civic-run BEST rammed into several vehicles and pedestrians around 9.30 pm on Monday, on SG Barve Marg, Kurla (West). More was arrested under BNS provisions after being taken in custody in relation to the accident. Thus, they presented him in front of a magistrate court and pleaded for further remand to do the investigation process. All about the victims
- Afrin Shah was one of seven passengers killed when the BEST bus crashed in Mumbai on Monday, and she had just taken the first day of her new job. She was on her way home when the accident occurred. Unable to find a rickshaw, she called her father, Abdul Salim, who suggested she walk to Kurla station. Just moments later, Salim received a call telling him to go to the hospital. Upon arriving, he discovered Afrin's body.
- Kannis Ansari was another victim; a nursing professional coming back from the hospital when the accident occurred and declared brought dead to the hospital. The remaining victims include Anam Sheikh, Shivam Kashyap, Vijay Gaikwad, and Faruq Chaudhari.

Driver says "it confused him with an automatic vehicle without a clutch."
- He further divulged in a previous interview that he had driven manual transmission buses for a private contractor, but he felt nervous about the automatic transmission electric bus that was assigned to him on December 1. According to The Times of India, he further confessed that having no clutch to drive confused him while driving.
What eyewitnesses say
- Meanwhile, eyewitnesses claimed that the bus driver was intoxicated and unable to manage the large vehicle. After driving for just about 100 metres, the bus began colliding with other moving vehicles, including two two-wheelers travelling on the wrong side and two autorickshaws, one of which was completely crushed.
- The driver continued with the vehicle, hitting even more pedestrians and cars, completely losing control of the bus.
