“Miracle of Seat 11A: British Media Reacts to Air India Crash’s Lone Survivor Vishwash Kumar Ramesh”
British newspapers paid a lot of attention to the incredible survival of Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the only one to walk away from the Air India crash.

“Miracle of Seat 11A: Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, a Briton who survived the crash of an Air India plane, on Friday explained how he "crawled from" the wreckage. Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, was said to be the only survivor from the plane in the accident thrown by Thursday in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
Amidst the fire engulfing the wreckage of the Air India Flight AI 171 that was bound for London, the smoke darkening the skies, Kumar Ramesh, bloodied and burned on his arms, limped away from the mangled up plane. He stared, dazed, without answers.

Hindustan Times first spoke about Kumar Ramesh's miraculous escape, just a few hours after the crash occurrence on Thursday. "I still can't believe I survived," Kumar Ramesh told DD News, as he sat up in his hospital bed.
The miraculous survival of Kumar Ramesh as he was the only person to wander granted considerable print space in British newspapers.
The British media, like everyone else, has called it a miracle. Although Kumar Ramesh had originally been sitting elsewhere on the plane, he is said to have switched his seat on a whim, moving to seat 11A that was immediately beside an emergency exit.
News agency Reuters reported Ramesh's story in the emergency room, explaining how he was able unfasten himself from the seat and stagger away through the flames and debris.
In a very personal account for The Guardian, referencing the DD News interview, “I saw people dying in front of my eyes…,” he said. Ramesh described his final efforts to search for his younger brother Ajaykumar who was also meant to be on the flight and who is now missing.
In its article "Air India Crash 'sole survivor' and 'miracle of seat 11A'," BBC News said news agency Gaurav Ramesh, 30, possessed "extraordinary composure" under disaster conditions. The article also quoted a statement from the UK foreign office saying that Ramesh had received assistance, and expressed condolences for the victims.
The Sun led with "miracle Brit in seat 11A" and cited the father-of-three from Leicester, saying he had miraculously survived.
The Daily Telegraph repeated the word "miracle" while reporting the crash, which resulted in the deaths of 52 Britons, was the UK's worst air disaster since 1985. It cited aviation experts saying the crash could be due to an engine failure, bird strike or wing position.
Referencing the "miracle of seat 11A", The Daily Star led with Ramesh's shocked family describing how Ramesh could not comprehend how he survived the horrific crash.
The Daily Mirror characterized his survival as “against all odds”, with a photo of Ramesh dashing away from the flaming wreck, injured and dazed.
The Daily Express gave his escape story a full page as well, paying the same attention to the miraculous nature of his escape as the others.
The Daily Mail published a photo of his boarding pass showing he was in position 11A, and quoted Ramesh's phone call to his family, saying: "I don't know how I'm alive and not dead".
