Meerut Murder Case: Victim’s Parents Demand Death Penalty for Accused

Meerut Murder Case: The parents of Muskan Rastogi, who is purportedly sentenced to have killed her husband in conjunction with her boyfriend, sought for her harshest punishment.

Muskan's parents, Pramod Kumar Rastogi and Kavita Rastogi opine to NDTV that she needs to be given "the harshest punishment for doing this to Saurabh, who loved her blindly."

As reports suggest, Saurabh Rajput, 35, an officer of the Merchant Navy working with a US-based company, was murdered on the night of March 4 by his wife Muskaan and her boyfriend Sahil Shukla. Saurabh came back in February, "He came home for his six-year-old daughter's birthday."

The murder occurred on March 4 in Brahmpuri area of Meerut. About 15 days after the crime the decomposed body of Rajput was discovered from a rented flat in Indiranagar. Muskaan and her lover Sahil Shukla killed Saurabh and then chopped his body into around 15 pieces and sealed them in a plastic bucket with cement. After committing the murder, Muskan reportedly went on vacation at hill resort with Sahil.

Muskaan's parents told NDTV that she had visited them after returning from the hills. "She confessed that she had killed Saurabh and we immediately took her to the police station. She told us, 'Mummy, we killed Saurabh'," said Muskaan's mother Kavita Rastogi. According to Kavita, Saurabh was "blindly in love" with Muskaan. "Our daughter was the problem. She got him separated from his family. And she has now done this,” she said.

The Rastogis said they are firmly with Saurabh's family. "That's why we got her arrested. They should get justice. He (Saurabh) put everything at stake, left his parents, their property worth crores. And she got him (killed). He was our son too," Muskaan’s mother told NDTV.

Muskaan's parents said she should be hanged. "She has lost the right to live," they told NDTV.

This fact of murdering Saurabh became known when Muskaan's maternal grandfather went to the police and revealed about the confession of his daughter. Police arrested Muskan as well as Sahil, and they led police to the building where the body had been hidden. But, the police could not break open the drum as there was hard cement. So the policemen had to send it into the mortuary to have it cut open and recovered the body.

Saurabh lived in a rented apartment with Muskaan after marrying against family opposition in 2016.
