Massive Power Outage Hits Spain and Portugal: Nationwide power outage caused millions of people in Spain, Portugal and parts of France not to have electricity on Monday. There are reports of problems with the electrical grid in Europe.
In addition to telecommunications, both nations report having no access to mobile networks. There was a pricking of Barajas International Airport because of the power outage in Madrid. Several other airports in the area have ceased operations.

And, as a bus reported by the Euronews Portugal, the trains got stuck in the tunnels between the above stations, leaving thousands on-board and trapped in the respective metros in the capitals of Portugal and Spain.
Meanwhile, Portuguese police confirmed that there were no trains operating, the metro not operating in both Porto and Lisbon and traffic signals were affected all over the country, according to Reuters.
According to Euronews Spain, the Spanish government has been holding an emergency session in Moncloa and is following the development of the situation.
Andorra as well as parts of France bordering Spain were also reported to be affected by the blackout. Parameterigly, recently collected data show disruption in Belgium as well.

The real reasons behind the blackout all over Spain and Portugal cannot really be established so far, although national networks throughout the Iberian Peninsula have reported problems with the European power grid, per local media. An additional cause could be a possible fire on Alaric Mountain, southwest of France, that destroys a high-voltage power cable between Perpignan and eastern Narbonne.
Countless households, stores, restaurants, and businesses in Madrid were plunged into utter darkness. The services also ceased to function regarding the worldwide web.
The Spanish Grid operator, Red Electrica, mentioned that, as far as it was concerned, there would be cooperation in restoring services with energy providers for said incident.
According to Red Electrica, they are restoring energy in both regions of the North and South of the country.
