In another shocking accident, a woman lost her life and 18 people were injured because a container truck hit 20 vehicles on Mumbai-Pune Expressway in the afternoon on Saturday.
The grim happening occurred along the Adoshi tunnel which is within the precinct of Khopoli police station in humble town Khalapur taluka of Raigad district in Maharashtra, as per a police authority to network agency PTI.
The official said, "The driver of the container trailer truck lost control of the vehicle after brake failure. It hit at least 20 vehicles, including luxury cars like BMW and Mercedes, resulting in serious injuries to 19 persons. They were admitted to a private hospital in Navi Mumbai. Of these, a woman died while undergoing treatment," the official said.
A Mumbai-based social activist Siraj Noorani had shared the horrific video of the accident online in which the traffic can be seen crawling on the expressway. The official said the victims have been taken to a privately owned hospital in Navi Mumbai. The only entity known to have died thus far is a woman who passed on during treatment at hospital.

"The driver was taken into custody by Khopoli police. However, a medical examination has shown he was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. A case has been registered and further probe is underway," the official added.
The traffic jam, which followed the pile-up was enormous nearly extending a full five kilometers so scores of vehicles had to be stranded. There were three vehicles totally damaged and a number of vehicles that were badly hit in the accident.
Most of the injured also got severe injuries. Emergency relief teams arrived soon and they were involved in rescues, treatment of the injured and clearing the debris.
