Mahakumbh 2025 LIVE: Chief Minister Yogi Adiyanath on Wednesday said the situation in Maha Kumbh was now under control and some devotees have been critically injured in the stampede.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), CM Yogi encouraged pilgrims to bathe at the ghats of the Ganga near their location rather than attempting to reach the Sangam Nose. The Sangam, where the Ganges, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers meet, is one of the most sacred spots in the Kumbh Mela, drawing millions of devotees each year.
"Dear devotees, come to Prayagraj and take a bath at the ghat of Mother Ganga near your location. Do not try to go towards the Sangam Nose. All of you should follow the instructions of the administration and cooperate in making arrangements. People are bathing peacefully at all the ghats of Sangam," CM Yogi wrote.

A "stampede-like" situation occurred in the early hours of Wednesday after some barriers broke, leading to injuries, reported ANI, citing special executive officer Akanksha Rana. However, she said that the situation was not serious and that the injured were receiving medical treatment.
"On the Sangam routes, a stampede-like situation arose after some barriers broke. Some people have been injured and are under treatment. It is not a serious situation," she told reporters.
Rescue operations are underway, and those injured in the chaos caused by the large crowd have been taken to Central Hospital.

The incident comes after massive crowds gathered near the ghats of Triveni Sangam to take a holy dip on the occasion. Over 80 to 100 million devotees are expected to gather at the Sangam Ghats for the 'Amrit Snan' on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya.
Mauni Amavasya, which marks the day of the second Shahi Snan, is expected to draw a crowd of 80-100 million people. Other significant bathing dates during the Mahakumbh are February 3 (Basant Panchami), February 12 (Maghi Purnima), and February 26 (Maha Shivaratri).
