Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan and 17 others have been booked under the SC-ST Atrocities Act. We explain what happened and what this case is about.

Infosys Co-Founder Kris Gopalakrishnan Booked Under SC/ST Act: The Bengaluru police on Monday launched a case against Infosys co-founder Senapathy Gopalakrishnan, also called Kris Gopalakrishnan, and 17 others under the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act.
Let's look at who Gopalakrishnan is, what happened, and the nature of the case.
The Sadashivanagar police department in Bengaluru registered a case against Gopalakrishnan, former IISc Director Balaram P, and 16 others under the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act based on the directions of the 71st City Civil and Sessions Court (CCH).
The Court's directive came after the complainant Durgappa, who belonged to the Bovi community (scheduled caste) and was a faculty member in the specialized field of sustainable technology at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), last claimed in the court that in 2014, he was disposed of on the basis of a honey trap case, standing for the accusation against him.
Durgappa added that, as mentioned in the complaint, he faced abuses and threats cast upon him with ill words due to casteism from the persons named, including Gopalakrishnan.
The other accused in the case includes Govindan Rangarajan, Sridhar Warrier, Sandya Vishwswaraih, Hari KVS, Dasappa, Balaram P, Hemalata Mhishi, Chattopadyaya K, Pradeep D Sawkar, and Manoharan.
According to a PTI report, there has hardly been any immediate comment from the IISc faculty after neither did Kris Gopalakrishnan, member of the IISc Board of Trustees, provide a response.
Durgappa considers Balaram guilty of establishing a false case against him, alleging that he faces caste-based abuse and threats by various parties to gain control and power over relevant work and organizations under investigation.
Gopalakrishnan, 69, is one of the original co-founders of Infosys. He had worked as the CEO and MD of Infosys between 2007 and 2011. Post that, Gopalakrishnan served as a Vice Chairman of the company until 2014.
He is currently the Chairman of startup accelerator Axilor Ventures. The firm has invested in start-ups like EnKash, GoodHome, and Kaagaz, among others, stated a Hindustan Times report.
Together with his wife Sudha, Gopalakrishnan operates a charitable organization called the Pratiksha Trust devoted to brain research.
He also serves on the Board of Governors of both IIT-Madras and IIT-Bangalore, and is a trustee of the Chennai Mathematical Institute, according to the Infosys website.
In 2011, he was conferred with the third-highest civilian honor in India, that is, the Padma Bhushan.
He has Master's degrees in physics and computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras.
In a 2009 conversation with Mint, he said he would have become a doctor, not a businessman, and recalled his parents' dream that he should study medicine since no doctor was in their extended family.
