BJP Clinches First Seat as Surat Candidate Wins Unopposed: Mukesh Dalal, the BJP candidate in Gujarat's Surat, wins unopposed after the Congress candidate's nomination was rejected and other candidates resigned.

State Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced that it was his party's first victory in the Lok Sabha elections on Monday. His candidate won uncontested from Gujarat's Surat constituency.

"Hearty congratulations and best wishes to Surat Lok Sabha seat candidate Shri Mukeshbhai Dalal for being elected unopposed," Gujarat CM said in an X post.

According to CM Patel, this was the beginning of the BJP's "historic victory."

“This is a clear indication of the lotus blossoming with BJP’s resounding victory in all 26 seats in Gujarat and the realization of the resolve of #AbKiBaar400Paar under the leadership of Hon’ble Modiji. #PhirEkBaarModiSarkar,” the Gujarat CM said in a post on X.

Nilesh Kumbhani's nomination papers for the Surat Lok Sabha seat were rejected on Sunday by his three proposers who claimed the signature wasn't their own.

Suresh Padsala, the alternate Congress candidate from Surat, had a similar fate, effectively excluding the main opposition party from the election.

A preliminary examination revealed inconsistencies in the proposers' signatures, according to Returning Officer (RO) Sourabh Pardhi.

A candidate endorsed by a recognised political party must be proposed by one voter from the constituency.

"Surat has presented the first Lotus to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I congratulate our candidate for Surat Lok Sabha seat Mukesh Dalal for getting elected unopposed." said BJP Gujarat unit chief CR Paatil on Monday.

As proposers, ten electors from the constituency must sign the nomination paper if the candidate is independent or nominated by an unrecognized party.

According to Congress, the matter should be taken to the high court.
