Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Congress Announces 8 Candidates from Haryana
Congress Announces 8 Candidates from Haryana.

Congress Announces 8 Candidates from Haryana: In Haryana, Congress denied Brijendra Singh, a BJP turncoat and Hisar MP, a ticket for eight Lok Sabha seats.

Congress leadership considers Raj Babbar and Captain Ajay Yadav for Gurgaon despite Bhupinder Hooda's influence.

Congress has so far announced 317 candidates, including Kumari Selja, a Hooda detractor who will contest from Sirsa (reserved for SCs).

According to sources, Hooda has been successful in influencing ticket decisions, such as in Bhiwani-Mahendragarh, where Rao Dan Singh was chosen over senior leader Kiran Chaudhary, who supported her daughter Shruti.

Chaudhary herself was also suggested as a candidate for the seat, but Hooda insisted that Singh be the one to run.

Varun Choudhary will run from Ambala (SC), while Jai Prakash will run from Hisar, a seat Brijendra Singh had been considering.

In 2014, Brijendra and his father Bijender Singh left Congress to join the BJP following a factional dispute with Hooda.

The party chose Jai Prakash instead of Brijendra due to unfavourable reports from the ground. The list only has two Jats: Jai Prakash and Deepender, according to sources.

It also nominated Divyanshu Budhiraja for Karnal, Satpal Brahmachari for Sonipat, and Mahendra Pratap Singh for Faridabad.

In the past, the Central Election Committee of the party had faced difficulties in finalising candidate names due to objections from state leaders.

As a result, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge established a committee of senior leaders to address contentious issues regarding candidate selection.
