Kussh S Sinha Blames ‘Saiyaara’ Wave for Nikita Roy’s Box Office Failure, Claims Anupam Kher Film Pulled from Theatres
The brother of Sonakshi Sinha, Kush Sinha commented on the box office failure of his film Nikita Roy, and stated that, Saiyaara overperformed thus causing his failure. He also hinted that his movie is an original work.

On July 18, three Hindi movies were screened in cinemas, including what seems to be like a coincidence, Mohit Suri Saiyaara, Kush Sinha Nikita Roy, and Anupam Kher Tanvi the Great. Whereas Saiyaara has become a mega blockbuster, other two films have had a hard time at the box office.
Catering to new brands, Ahaan Panday, and Aneet Padda as lead actors, Saiyaara has collected more than Rs 250 crore in the box office, whereas both Nikita Roy and Tanvi the Great are reflecting at almost the same value of Rs 2 crore apiece.

Talking to an interview, Kush Sinha addressed the issue of the box office failure of his film, and pointed a finger of blame at the Saiyaara wave. He even further said that Tanvi the Great was taken off the theatres yet his movie, Nikita Roy, was not.
During an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, he was questioned regarding the poor performance of Nikita Roy and he replied that his father, Shatrughan Sinha advised him not to lose hope. “We tried to get more screens, but sometimes, some films are swept along by a wave. At the same time, whichever theatre chains we’ve spoke to, they’ve seen the merit in the film and they’ve held on to it. Three films were released on the same day, and while everybody knows about the film that performed so well, the other film lost theatres.”
Kush has applauded the makers of Saiyaara on their success but he was not able to name which film it was. “Nobody anticipated this wave, and box office results aren’t in our hands. I’m happy that a romantic film starring two newcomers has done so well. I’m happy for YRF, and I want to congratulate them,” he said, adding to it the fact that the other stakeholders in his film might have acted differently so as to expect Saiyaara and take a more aggressive step on promoting Nikita Roy.

“Our film has survived the storm and has entered week two with 40%-50% increase in theatres,” he said.
Kush claimed that his family has liked Nikita Roy and that he has got feedback of many others also. “The best thing is that it is an entirely original film, we haven’t plagiarised content from anywhere,” he said.
His reply was when he was informed that the producers of Saiyaara have been accused of plagiarism. “There have been discussions, but that is for them to answer. It’s up to them to clear their names. But I’ve always been clear that I want to tell original stories, and if I ever do a remake, it will be an official remake. Others might not share this point of view, and that’s up to them.”
