Kolkata Gang-Rape Accused Monojit Mishra’s Latest Shocker: Love-Bite 'Scratch Marks'

Kolkata Gang-Rape Accused Monojit Mishra’s Latest Shocker: The main suspect in the gang-rape of a 24-year old law student in Kolkata, Monojit Mishra has been further accused after doctors found marks of scratch on his body.

It was found out that the victim fought back during the assault as commercial examinations showed that her nails had caused some injuries. The so called gang-rape occurred in the room of a security guard of South Calcutta Law College and it took place on June 25.

"There are signs of injuries, precisely scratch marks, on the body of Monojit. These injuries are fresh. Such injuries happen when someone faces struggle or resistance," news agency PTI reported, quoting a well-placed police source.

In the interim, the CCTV footage of the campus revealed that the survivor was also dragged by the accused in college premises.

Four individuals have been arrested by police over the case. The first is the arrest of the prime accused Monojit Mishra and his co-accused Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukherjee who were law college students. Subsequently college security officer Pinaki Bandyopadhyay was also arrested.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Kolkata Police that is currently investigating the case has also found out evidence that Monojit was also engaging in conversation with the Vice Principal of the law college, Dr Nayna Chatterji on the very morning after the crime.

Call details record (CDRs) of the three mobile phones belonging to the accused, were matched with each other.

"We found that there was a call from Monojit's number to the college VP the next morning after the crime took place. We have questioned the VP twice since yesterday to know the details of their conversation," the IPS officer said.

He further stated that there is an attempt to ascertain the entire information on telephonic contact between Monojit and Chatterji.

The police have also retrieved the CCTV footage of a medical shop where the accused person, Zaib Ahmed purchased the inhalator of the survivor.

The victim had asked her assaulters to take her to hospital when she became ill in the process of assault. However, when they refused her, she is said to have requested them to bring to her an inhaler to ease her difficulties in breathing.

"Zaib Ahmed had gone to the medical store to fetch the inhaler. The owner of the pharmacy said that Zaib wanted to make half of the payment in cash and the rest via UPI, which we didn’t agree to. The accused then made the full payment online. We have taken a note of their version," the police official said.

The 24-year-old woman also said in her complaint that Zaib had brought the inhaler, which left her with a better feeling.

According to the police officer, they have drawn a list of 16 individuals whose faces were captured in the CCTV in the college after classes. They are mostly students. Up to date, six of them have been questioned by investigating officers. "We are interviewing them as to whether they had seen or heard anything there on June 25, he said.

A number of facts such as digital tracks, medical examination, and crime scene have all supported the grievance of the victim.

On Tuesday, the police had moved to Alipore court, where they wanted a longer 10 days custody of all the arrested accused to be granted to them.

The police commissioner of Kolkata, Manoj Verma, held a meeting with the reporters and said that criminologists working on the case have gathered quite a number of pieces of evidence, related to the crime.

"The matter is quite sensitive and I will not be able to reveal details. We have arrested the three accused within 12 hours after the FIR was filed. Another person was also arrested later," he added.
