Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case LIVE: SC Hearing Soon, Police File Corruption Charges Against Sandip Ghosh

Supreme Court on Tuesday, 20th August 2024 heard the Kolkata Rape case. Supreme Court started by bashing the authorities because of their negligence in their duty and insensitivity towards the incident. Supreme Court asked the responsible authority

"What was the principal doing?"

"What was Kolkata Police doing?"

"Why was the FIR filed so late?"

“Parents were not in the hospital when the incident took place. The onus was on the hospital to register a case”, the Chief Justice asserted.

"The nation cannot await another rape to take some steps." The Court said the rape and murder of a postgraduate medic in Kolkata. The hearing was benched by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud (center), Justice J B Pardiwala (right), and Justice Manoj Misra (left). Supreme Court has appointed a task force for the security of doctors at workspaces.

The Court seemed furious about the fact that the Former RG Kar Medical College principal Sandip Ghosh resigned because of student and doctor pressure and was transferred to the equally reputed college within a day. He is accused by the victim's parents that he tried to clear the case by calling it a suicide and making a statement blaming the victim for the rape.

Sandip has been called frequently by the CBI and his colleagues and student says he is involved in corruption and threatening students to fail them if things don't go according to him. The Kolkata police have registered a case against Sandip Ghosh under Sections 420 (Cheating) read with Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and Section 7 (Bribery) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

He will be sent a notice for revealing the victim's identity but amid this chaos the victim's family is frustrated. The victim's mother gave the statement that I don't understand what is going on with the investigation. It's been a week now, but apart from Sanjay Roy, no one has been arrested. We are losing hope with each passing day. The principal is being continuously interrogated. But he is not being arrested. We do not understand what the CBI wants to know from him," she said.
