Five first year MBBS students of Vandanam Government Medical College who were studying in Alappuzha died when their car collided head on with a KSRTC bus in Kalarcode on Monday.

Six others also sustained minor injuries and are undergoing treatment in the nearby government hospital. The families and friends of the deceased students are in shock as they were in touch with them just hours before the accident.
The victims of the tragic accident were identified as Mohammed, Muhasin, Ibrahim, Devanand, and Shreedeep. The crash occurred after 9 p.m. when their Tavera car, reportedly speeding, lost control and collided with a KSRTC bus traveling from Guruvayur to Kayamkulam. Eyewitnesses reported that the impact tore the car apart, throwing the medical students out onto the road.

On Tuesday, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the death of the deceased.
The CCTV footage of the accident shows the car speeding on a rainy night, lost control, skidded and collided with the bus and then got crushed under it. Eyewitnesses said three students died on the spot and others died later.
Local residents, who rushed to the spot, described the aftermath as horrific. One bystander shared how the cries for help from the trapped victims haunted him hours after the accident. “One of them held my hand, pleading for help, and became unconscious moments later,” he recounted.

An MBBS student from the same college shared that one of the victims, his roommate, had mentioned plans to watch a movie in Kochi just hours before the accident. "We joined the college only a month and a half ago, but I knew him from our entrance exam days," the friend said, deeply shaken by the tragedy
