Jaya Bachchan’s Father Told Amitabh Bachchan’s Dad: Recently, the grand wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant brought attention back to Lavish Indian weddings, with the perfect timing reflecting on a much quieter and equally significant wedding from Bollywood history.

After the frame from Amitabh’s hit films like "Zanjeer," “Namak Haram," and “Saudagar,” the Bachchan family chose to opt low key wedding to avoid attracting massive crowds.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan noted in his autobiography that even though having their own flat at Beach House, Jaya's family chose a friend’s place in the Skylark Building at Malabar Hills for the ceremony even Amitabh’s neighbours were aware of the event.
Extremely exclusive guests were invited to the wedding including only close relatives and family of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who sent her son Sanjay Gandhi on behalf of herself. “We sent a telegram to Jagdish Rajan to 'come with your family immediately,' with no indication of the reason,” Harivansh Rai wrote.
Bachchan accepted as Jaya’s family wanted the wedding to be conducted in a traditional Bengali manner. Firstly they conducted a small ceremony which was the var-puja where Jaya's father visited Amitabh's residence with gifts. Harivansh Rai then did the same at Jaya’s Beach House. He was shocked to see that no one showed any sign of happiness during the ceremony, except Jaya.
The Haldi ceremony was also kept secret. “The joy that was so confined by this constriction spilled out in a tingling of the spine and a tearful glimmering of the eye, especially in Teji’s case,” wrote Harivansh Rai. The family also misled their neighbourhood that the decorations were for the firm shoot.
