Introduced a new feature on platform X

Elon Musk’s X Introduces New Feature: The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk, who also owned X (formerly Twitter), introduced a new feature on platform X in which users are allowed to disable links in replies to their posts.

It has not been confirmed yet what’s the exact reason for this update, people are aiming that it will be for resolving the issue of spam bots on the platform, which typically leaves promotional links in response to other users' posts.

Will you enable it?

(I personally do) https://t.co/Ra326meTq2

As per an app researcher, this feature would allow users to choose an option to prevent others from linking in replies to their posts.

This was first spotted by an app researcher Nima Owji shared a screenshot of the new update in X and wrote, “X is working on the ability to let you disable links in the replies of your posts!”

And later confirmed by X's senior director for security engineering, Christopher Stanley, who replied to the post, Stanley said: "My team built this.” This feature will give relief to users who are tired of spam bots posting irrelevant links in their replies, it could also be a barrier for those who try to fact-check a post to limit its reach.

There is no confirmation from X not even from Elon Musk about this new update. In the next few days, the feature will be available to users.

It is one of Musk's top priorities to tackle the threat of spam bots since he took over. He has also tested a ‘Not a Bot’ programme for new users in New Zealand and the Philippines. It requires paying USD 1 (approximately Rs 85) annually for new users to use basic features like replying, liking or bookmarking a post.

In a post on X earlier this year, Musk said that a "systemic purge of bots & trolls is underway" and that the social media platform would track down the people responsible for these bots, while bringing "the full force of the law to bear upon them".

There is no information on whether the new link-blocking feature of X will be available to free users, or it will be limited to X’s paid users.

In addition, a month ago X announced that it would make likes private for all users. There is also a piece of information that the platform is also working on a YouTube-style dislike button which will allow users to downvote posts and comments.
