Japan Launches e-Visa for Indian Tourists: Here's How to Apply

Japan Launches e-Visa for Indian Tourists: The Japanese government has launched a new e-Visa program for several countries, including India. This single-entry visa is valid for 90 days and was designed for travellers who will enter Japan by air.

By introducing electronic visas (e-Visas) via the Japan e-Visa system, the process of obtaining a visa for individuals seeking short-term tourism in Japan has been simplified.

This program is open to the following countries and regions: Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States.

Indian citizens and foreign nationals residing in India are also eligible.

You can apply for an e-Visa via the Japan e-Visa website if you are a resident of one of these countries or regions and are not exempt from short-term visa requirements.

What is the process for applying for a Japan e-Visa?

To apply for a Japanese e-Visa, you must have access to the internet. You must present the authorities with a digital 'visa issuance notice' when you arrive at the airport, and anything other than a digital document, such as photos or screenshots, is not considered valid. Learn how to obtain an e-Visa by following this step-by-step guide.

The first step toward applying for an e-Visa is to visit the official website of the Japan Visa Application Centre, run by VFS Global, at https://visa.vfsglobal.com/ind/en/jpn/.

After that, individuals can select the "Temporary Visitor Visa" option and review all requirements carefully before submitting their application. Tourists must download and complete the application form accurately before printing. Correct documents must be submitted.

Once an applicant has booked an appointment at the Visa Application Centre, they will receive a confirmation email along with a letter confirming their appointment.

After the visa application form is submitted at the centre, the tourists will have to pay their application fee. The tourists will then receive an email notification when their e-Visa is ready. An e-Visa will replace a physical visa for approved applicants. With the reference number from the invoice or receipt issued by the center, individuals can also track the visa application status online.

Individuals will be required to display a "visa issuance notice" from their mobile devices during check-in at the airport, which is provided by the travel agency in printed or PDF format. This notice can be displayed by scanning a two-dimensional barcode with their devices and entering the required information. At the top right, a countdown timer indicates whether the notice is valid.

In order to apply for a Japanese overseas visa, tourists may be asked to appear in person for an interview at the Japanese overseas establishment in the country where they reside. On a tourist e-Visa, valid for 90 days, Indian tourists can enjoy a seamless travel experience to Japan by following the stipulated criteria.
