Israelis’ Lawsuit Says UN Agency Helps Hamas By Paying Gaza Staff In Dollars

Israel citizens are blaming the United Nations agency because of their help to Palestinians for funding the militants by paying staff in U.S. dollars and then sending those dollars to money changers in Gaza has led to the loss of millions of people on the October 7 attack on Gaza.
The Associated Press reported that the UNWRA agency paid the staff and it was their choice to get paid in dollars.
On Monday a lawsuit was filed at a U.S. federal court in New York, it was a huge challenge for the United Nations, as it provided food, water, and shelter for civilians during the war between Israel and Hamas.
The Israeli government during the eight-month war, criticized the agency, forcing UNRWA to defend itself while dealing with a growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
The lawsuit that was filed on Monday said, “UNRWA’s staff, facilities and ability to truck cash U.S. dollars into Gaza formed a potent pillar of Hamas’ plan to undertake the Oct. 7 attack, systematically and deliberately aided and abetted Hamas and its goals.”

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini during a press meeting said, “I don’t know what the status of this lawsuit is all about, but for the time being, I see this as an additional way to put pressure on the agency.”
On October 27, Israeli forces launched a merciless attack on Gaza killed nearly 1,200 people, and took about 250 hostages. The reports from the Gaza Health Ministry say that the war has killed more than 37,000 Palestinians and caused mass destruction of property.
The lawsuit states that the UNRWA hires Hamas agents and the texts in UNRWA schools are not appropriate. It also says that the agency should stop paying its 13,000 employees in Gaza in U.S. dollars.
UNRWA, which used to be called the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East, was created to help the roughly 700,000 Palestinians who fled or were forced to leave what is now Israel during the war that led to the creation of the country in 1948.
