Iran President Says US Entered Conflict After Seeing ‘Israel’s Impotence’

Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian, in his first remarks since the US bombed the Iranian nuclear sites said that the military strike demonstrated that America is the major actor behind Israel's military attack upon the Islamic Republic.

Quoted by state news agency IRNA, “joined the arena after witnessing Israel's impotence,” Pezeshkian said the United States.

“This aggression showed that America is the main factor behind the Zionist regime's hostile actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Pezeshkian said.

Now, the United States has joined the escalated hostility between Israel and Iran with attacks on 3 major nuclear sites within Iran overnight.

The US president Donald Trump, stated that the nuclear facilities attacked were "entirely and wholly obliterated", and warned Iran that if it chose to respond, more strikes will be forthcoming.

The United States comes after a week of uncompromising hostility induced by sudden Israeli attacks on June 13 attacking Iran's military and nuclear capability.

Those Israeli attacks, caused several senior military officers and nuclear scientists to lose their lives. As a counter response, Iran unleashed a hundreds of missiles and drones upon Israel.

Several of those missiles and drones slipped past the sophisticated multi-layered air defence shield of Israel.

So far, this continuing hostility has resulted in hundreds dead and close to 1000 injured in Iran, while in Israel, well over two dozen dead, while hundreds injured.

Iran asserts that its nuclear programme is strictly for peaceful uses. However, Israel has deemed it an existential threat, and argues that its military campaign is necessary to prevent Iran from making a nuclear weapon.

US intelligence opinions are that the Iranians are not actively working towards a bomb. Nevertheless, both President Donald Trump and Israeli officials maintain there is an imminent danger that Iran could assemble one quickly.

For just over two years, tensions in the region have been high, with Israel carrying out a military campaign to destroy Hamas, an Iranian ally in Gaza, in reaction to Hamas’ attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.

Trump, during a televised address from the White House, announced that the previous night Israel carried out “massive precision strikes” on Iran’s Fordo, Isfahan, and Natanz nuclear facilities. He called the operation “a spectacular military success,” and stated the sites were “completely and fully obliterated.”Trump also mentioned that Iran had to “make peace” now.

Iran's Atomic Energy Organization confirmed the attacks while adding that its nuclear program would continue. There were no immediate reports from either Iranian officials or the UN nuclear watchdog of radioactive contamination at the sites struck.
