India Reacts to Trump-Putin Meeting: Commends Pursuit of Peace, Seeks Early End to Ukraine Conflict
Hours after the meeting of Trump and Putin in Alaska, the government has stated that the only way out is through dialogue and diplomacy.

India Reacts to Trump-Putin Meeting: The Alaska summit between the Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump has been welcomed by India as a praiseworthy move towards peace in the war around Ukraine. The only path ahead is by way of dialogue and diplomacy said the government of the country through a statement, hours after both head of states held another joint press conference but fell short of signing an agreement that would guarantee peace.
"India welcomes the Summit meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin of Russia. Their leadership in the pursuit of peace is highly commendable. India appreciates the progress made in the Summit. The way forward can only be through dialogue and diplomacy. The world wants to see an early end to the conflict in Ukraine," said a statement by the Ministry of External Affairs.

In particular, in regards to India, the summit gained importance due to high tariffs of US on Indian shipments to purchase Russian oil. There is more than 50 percent tariff on Indian goods including the 25 percent secondary tariffs in the US and Trump charges to India; the Russian war machine is a Indian funded.
But just before the meeting with Putin, the President promised that he would not probably impose any second tariff on the countries which still purchase Russian crude oil.
Trump and Putin came to Alaska early today amid lots of fanfare over a summit that was trumpeted as historic. This was a meeting that took place in a US airbase located in Anchorage. Screaming jets greeted the two leaders as they arrived after a deal perceived to curtail the three-yr. war in Ukraine. The two persons also talked and spent more than two hours, yet they never agreed on how to stop the war.
The two subsequently held a joint news conference during which they took no questions. Trump stated during the conference about having a very productive meeting with his Russian counterpart where they have agreed on many points. There remain certain problems that need to be tackled.

Trump also provided further understanding on his part that there is no deal until there is a deal so they have not yet made up any kind of resolution but Putin stated Russia was genuinely interested in the end of the war in Ukraine, he said, adding, "We didn't get there, but we have a very good chance of getting there."
Putin, who has been ostracized in the problem, has also expressed thanks to Trump who hosted the summit and he said that had he been the President of the United States in 2022, then the war would not have begun. He also proposed further visit between the two leaders with the next venue being Moscow.
According to Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky Trump has given him details of the "major points" of his discussions with Putin and he is due to go to Washington on Monday to continue discussions with the US President.
European leaders together with French, German, UK and European Commission supported a three-way meeting of Trump, Putin and Zelensky and demanded they pressed on the sanction pressure on Russia until peace was found.
