IMD Predicts Heavy Rain over Andhra Pradesh

IMD Predicts Heavy Rain: Parts of Rayalaseema, North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh got light to moderate rains on Saturday. IMD has forecast heavy rains for parts of these three regions from July 20 to 21.

Rayachoti in Annamayya district got 7 cm of rainfall from Friday morning to Saturday morning, followed by 6 cm in Chintalapudi (Eluru), 4 cm each in Tuni (Kakinada), Chodavaram (Anakapalle), Tadepalligudem (West Godavari) and Kodur (YSR Kadapa) during the same period.

The rains brought much needed relief to people in many parts of the state from the heat and humidity. But Vizagites are still reeling under hot and humid weather due to scattered rains in the past few days.
IMD has forecast heavy rains for YSR Kadapa, Tirupati, Annamayya, Chittoor, Prakasam, Palnadu, Bapatla, Guntur, Eluru, Alluri Sitharama Raju and Kakinada districts on Sunday (July 20). The department has also predicted heavy to very heavy rains in Prakasam, Bapatla, Guntur, NTR and Krishna districts on Monday (July 21). Eluru, ASR, East Godavari, West Godavari, Konaseema and Kakinada districts are expected to get heavy rains on Monday.

Thunderstorms with lightning are likely at isolated places in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema regions from July 20 to 22. Squally weather with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph and gusts up to 60 kmph is expected along and off the South Andhra Pradesh coast from July 21 to 23.
As of July 19, 2025, Andhra Pradesh is 30% behind in rainfall. Normal rainfall from June 1 to July 19 is 170.4 mm but the state has received only 119.8 mm so far.Of the 26 districts in Andhra Pradesh, 25 are in deficit and 7 are in 40-60% deficit. Vizag is the only one in 5% above normal.
