IMD Predicts Heavy Rain for Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh Due to Bay of Bengal System

IMD Predicts Heavy Rain: IMD has forecast heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in parts of southern India, especially Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh in the coming days. A low pressure area is expected to form in the Bay of Bengal on Dec 7 and move west-northwestwards and reach the southwest Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka by Dec 12.
This system is expected to bring rain to Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on Dec 11 and 12 and to Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema on Dec 12.
As per IMD’s latest bulletin the cyclonic circulation over Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal is persisting up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. Under its influence a low pressure area is likely to form over central south Bay of Bengal around Dec 7.

Regional Meteorological Centre Chennai has forecast light to moderate rain in some areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on Saturday and heavy rain on specific days:
Dec 11: Heavy rain is likely in Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram districts of Tamil Nadu and Karaikal.
Dec 12: Chengalpattu, Viluppuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram districts, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Meanwhile, a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to impact the Western Himalayan region and adjoining plains of Northwest India starting December 8.

As of the latest observation, the deep depression was located approximately 310 km southeast of Trincomalee on Sri Lanka’s northeast coast, 590 km south-southeast of Nagappattinam, and 800 km south of Chennai. It is moving north-northwestward at a speed of 12 kmph and is expected to bypass Sri Lanka as it tracks toward India.
IMD predicts the system will gain strength over the next 12 hours and evolve into a cyclone by November 27, although cooler sea surface temperatures closer to the Indian coast may slightly weaken its intensity
Authorities and residents in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Andhra Pradesh have been advised to prepare for heavy rain, strong winds, and coastal disruptions from November 27 to 29. The IMD warns of winds reaching 25-30 knots (gusting to 35 knots) near the system, with rough seas expected along the coasts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, and Sri Lanka until November 29.
